From Healing Hands to Lasting Hope: STARmed-supported RFA in South Africa and Eswatini
When global medical missions meet advanced technology, lives are changed.
A Mission of Scale and Compassion
In August 2025, more than 80 medical professionals from Kosin University Hospital (surgeons, nurses, pharmacists, physiotherapists, and support staff) traveled thousands of miles to South Africa and Eswatini. Over the course of ten days, they delivered care across hospitals, churches, and community centers, supported by STARmed’s radiofrequency ablation (RFA) equipment.
For many patients, this was the first time they had access to advanced treatment. For the local medical community, it felt like a general hospital had been brought to their doorstep, as one pastor described.

Turning Procedures Into Personal Victories
Among the patients treated were two individuals with thyroid nodules:
One patient, struggling to breathe, experienced visible relief within hours of undergoing RFA. Nearly ten local physicians who had gathered to observe broke into applause.
Another patient, with a 25 mm nodule, underwent a smooth, complication-free procedure, reinforcing the safety and efficiency of minimally invasive ablation.
These two cases became symbols of what is possible when expertise, compassion, and technology come together.
A Physician’s Perspective
“RFA was performed in two cases. One patient’s breathing improved after a couple of hours, and the other’s procedure went smoothly. With STARmed’s support, I believe more patients in underserved regions will benefit. This equipment is a beacon of hope for the Third World.”
Professor Kim Gu-sang, Kosin University
More Than Numbers: A Global Impact
The mission’s impact stretched across multiple specialties, from cancer surgeries and ultrasounds to general screenings and therapies. For local communities, it was more than clinical outcomes: it was hope, trust, and the promise of continued support.
STARmed’s Commitment
At STARmed, we believe access to advanced care should not depend on geography. By supporting humanitarian initiatives around the world, we are helping to bridge healthcare gaps and making minimally invasive ablation therapies available to communities that need them most.
Because when patients regain their health, sometimes within just a day, the impact goes far beyond medicine.
